I may live in this world, but I am not of it….
Show them who you are.
I am an heir to His kingdom…
Show them who you are.
My needs are provided for daily…
Show them who you are.
I have His Holy Spirit living within me….
Show them who you are.
I do not have to be afraid or anxious about anything….
Show them who you are.
In His presence I find joy….
Show them who you are.
I have been set free by His One and only Son….
Show them who you are.
I can walk boldly and confidently in Him…
Show them who you are.
My past life no longer defines me…
Show them who you are.
I am a new creation because He chose to save me…
Show them who you are.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made in His image…
Who am I?
I am the child of the Most High God…

Show Them Who You Are. When I call myself a Christian, I no longer take it lightly. I have always believed in God since I could remember, but my life was not surrendered to God and I did not know who Jesus was. I did not fully understand what He did on the cross for me truly meant before 2018. How could I say I believed if I didn’t really know who or what I was believing in? At one point I was only a hearer of the word, but not a doer.
Being a doer of His word means actually living out God’s word. It means surrendering your ways and allowing God to transform you into who He created you to be. It means practicing your faith daily. The first line in my poem says, “I may live in this world, but I am not of it”, is referenced from a prayer by Jesus in John 17. Followers of Jesus live in this world but not for the world. I no longer desire what the world values or prioritizes. I am no longer walking around aimlessly and blindly. I know I have a purpose for God’s kingdom and I want to live it out.
I used to find pleasure and satisfaction in things that did not matter only to never truly be satisfied. Today, I find my identity in Christ Jesus. Being a follower of Him means turning away from selfish ambitions, sinful ways, and desires. Not loving the things of this world. Things such as greed, vanity, etc. Don’t get me wrong, having money and nice things is fine, but when you allow them to consume and define you, that’s where the problem is. Making the decision to follow Jesus isn’t easy. It means denying yourself. It means living according to His word and striving to be like Him each day.
Jesus is the Son of God the Father. God the Father calls us His own children when we accept His Son Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We are adopted into His family. Once adopted you are called someone’s child, right? That is how it is with God. Each day that God allows me to see is truly a gift and blessing. Each day He gives me I want to live it for Him because I owe it all to Him. I want to show the world who I am in Him so that He can get the glory because without Jesus I am nothing. I have nothing. It’s true because I have been out there living without Him before and I found that life is empty and meaningless without Jesus. Why do you think so many celebrities are still unhappy with all their riches? Because money doesn’t buy happiness. Having the entire world, but losing your soul gets you where? Nowhere.
Make the choice today to show them who you are in Christ Jesus. To not only say you believe in Jesus, but actually follow Him to a better, more fulfilling and abundant life. He is always ready and waiting to embrace you with his loving arms wide open, no matter what your past mistakes were or current mistakes are. He freely gives grace and mercy to us all, but the choice is ours.
✝️“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”
