Social Media

Social Media.
The only place you can fake being true to ya.

Years ago we survived without it.
Seems as if today we can’t live without it.

Placing our lives on display for the world to see.
What we ate, who we hate, where we went out on a date.

Chicks posting pics hardly wearing any thread.
While others showcase loved ones on their dying bed.

The disrespect while someone has been shot with a gun.
You pull out your phone to record instead of dialing 911.

If we only knew the truth behind that “happy” couples smile.
Broadcasting only the good times, knowing they have been unhappy for a while.

Children dying.
No longer crying out for help.

But instead,
They believe what is being said.

Posting live videos for the world to view as they bring their innocent life to an end.
If only someone stood up for them like a true friend.

But then again.…

Social media.
Creeps its head back in around the bend.

As continuous torment follows a child in their home.
Cyber bullying, when all they want is to be left alone.

Social media.
The many things it will do to ya.

While we mask our true identities behind the screen.
We feel so free to say what we really mean.

But in reality, face to face, we have become so disconnected it’s a disgrace.

Social media.…

Cheating.
Beatings.

Comparing lives.
Unhappy wives.

Attention seeker.
Thirsty peekers.

Stalkers.
Gossip talkers.

Social media…..

Social Media. I can’t remember when I wrote this one, but it had to be somewhere between 2014 and 2016. I just remember being so tired of seeing the same type of posts on Facebook and it seemed as if it was getting worse. Reading the drama going on. Hearing about little kids live streaming of committing suicide. In 2015 this was the way I found out that my oldest brother had died. It was all just so overwhelming and disturbing. No one should have to read R.I.P. posts about their loved ones when they were just literally texting them a few hours prior. It’s extremely insensitive and disrespectful. There were a number of times where I had to disconnect from it, but it was never a permanent one like I did on 2021. No matter how tired I was of seeing and reading the same non sense, something continued to draw me back to it. Why? Was it the fear of not being in the loop with all my “friends”? Was it to stay in touch with family? At that time in my life, yes.

Today, I don’t even think about getting back on it. My life has been so peaceful without it. If you were born in the 90’s or sooner, you remember how it was prior to social media entering our lives. We spent our childhood playing outside. Ripping and running in the streets. At least for me I did 😂. I remember always being at the Boys & Girls Club. Playing street ball with the boys. Building forts in the woods. Going on bike rides. Being carefree and truly living life as a kid. Those were the days.

As I have mentioned in my “Disconnected” blog, it can be of great use, but when it’s not it’s just horrible. I’ve seen the harm it can do to relationships. I’ve experienced what it can do to your overall mental health, if you allow it to. In the end my decision was to simply get rid of it. This decision has helped me to place my focus on other areas of my life and become a better person all together.
